I defended mostly by myself using teleporters, with an inner citadel I walled off and placed my turrets within. I cleared the headquarters map and walled off a huge area. On my first playthrough, I turtled hard and didn’t go for one of the main 3 quest metals (titanium/palladium/uranium) until after day 60.
